Q&A

Are boiled peanuts healthy?

The boiling process draws antioxidants from their shells. The boiled peanuts have four times the antioxidants of raw or roasted peanuts. Boiling process also creates a more filling snack because of the water content. Peanuts help lower blood sugar and provides essential vitamins for the heart and the brain. Boiled peanuts are also keto friendly and a great addition to any plant-based or vegan diet.

What do boiled peanuts taste like?

To a southerner a boiled peanut taste like a boiled peanut, but for those that have never experienced this southern treat typically compare it to a lima bean or a pinto bean. Peanuts are not actually a nut. They are a legume and when boiled they have a bean like flavor and softer texture. It's a completely different experience than crunchy dry roasted peanuts.

Where do people eat boiled peanuts?

The origins of the boiled peanut go back to West Africa where "ground nuts" were boiled. Mostly enjoyed as a snack or appetizer in the Southeast, you can find "goober peas" at roadside stands, stadiums, convenient stores and restaurants. It's also a popular snack in Hawaii. Boiled peanuts are also found throughout Asia in parts of India and China.
